it's been reported that opening an mp3 in sweep causes a silent crash. when i try it nothing much happens (the progress bar remains at 0%) but X and sweep are using a lot of cpu cycles. occurs in svn trunk and the 0.8.4 release at least (i'll check 0.8.3)

need to find out what's going on here.

I've got same behavior in loading huge MP3 or OGG files. It takes a lot of time to load samples and sweep eats 100% of CPU power.

I didn't notice this on Mac OS X 10.4.8 with current fink packages and sweep 0.9.1. Does this bug exist only on Linux?
